Early voting: Oct. 19 – Oct. 30
During early voting, any registered Denton County voter can vote at any of the county's 54 early-voting sites. They're open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, through Friday, Oct. 23; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25; and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, through Friday, Oct. 30.
Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 3
On Election Day you must vote at your own precinct's polling place, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Unlike Dallas and Collin counties, Denton County doesn't use countywide vote centers on Election Day. Enter your address in the guide above to find your precinct and its polling place; the 239 precincts with voters share 148 polling places. If you're in line by 7 p.m., you can vote.
Some precinct lines changed this year, so check your polling place even if you've voted in Denton County before.
Your address decides which races are on your ballot. See yours with the county's sample ballot lookup.
Several cities, including Dallas, Carrollton, Frisco, Plano and Fort Worth, cross county lines. If you live in another county's part, that county runs your election: see Collin County Elections or Dallas County Elections, or find your county's office on the Texas Secretary of State's list.
Voting by mail
Texas lets you vote by mail only if one of these applies:
- You're 65 or older on Election Day
- You're sick or disabled
- You'll be outside Denton County on Election Day and throughout early voting
- You expect to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day
- You're in jail but otherwise eligible to vote
- You're certified in the Texas attorney general's Address Confidentiality Program and registered in person
- You're under a civil commitment order to live in a Texas Civil Commitment Office facility
Your application must reach the Elections Administration office by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, when the office closes. Mail it to P.O. Box 1720, Denton, TX 76202, or fax or email it; a faxed or emailed application counts only if the original, with your signature, also arrives within four business days.
Your voted ballot counts if it reaches the office by 7 p.m. on Election Day, or if it's postmarked by 7 p.m. on Election Day and arrives by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4. Or hand-deliver it yourself, with an accepted photo ID (or, if you can't reasonably get one, a supporting document and a signed Reasonable Impediment Declaration), to Denton County Elections Administration, 701 Kimberly Dr., in Denton on Election Day only, until 7 p.m. You must deliver your own ballot. Polling places do not accept mail ballots, and there are no drop boxes.
If there's a problem with your mail ballot, such as a missing or mismatched ID number, the county will tell you how to fix it. You have until Monday, Nov. 9, the sixth day after Election Day. Track your mail ballot with the Texas Secretary of State's Ballot by Mail Tracker.
What to bring
Bring one of these photo IDs. If you're 18 to 69, it can be expired for up to four years; if you're 70 or older, it can be expired for any length of time.
- Texas driver's license
- Texas Election Identification Certificate
- Texas personal ID card
- Texas handgun license
- U.S. military ID card with your photo
- U.S. citizenship certificate with your photo
- U.S. passport (book or card)
No photo ID? If you can't reasonably get one, you can show a supporting document, such as your voter registration certificate, a certified birth certificate, a utility bill, bank statement, government check or paycheck, and sign a Reasonable Impediment Declaration at the polling place. Otherwise you can vote a provisional ballot; it counts only if you then show an accepted ID to the county voter registrar within six days of Election Day, by Monday, Nov. 9.
Getting there
Where a DCTA or DART stop is within a quarter-mile of a site, the guide names it and the routes that serve it, and the directions links open your maps app with transit directions. DCTA's Connect buses run Monday through Saturday, so not on Sunday, Oct. 25.
On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, DART rides are free to the polls on its buses, trains, GoLink and paratransit when you show your valid voter registration card; DART serves the Denton County parts of Carrollton and Dallas. DART's details.
Accessibility
Every polling place has a Hart Verity Touch Writer with Access voting unit for voters who are blind, have limited vision or can't mark a ballot without help. Curbside voting is available to any voter who has difficulty walking or standing for long periods: have someone with you tell the election official when you arrive, or call the county at (940) 349-3200 ahead of time. You can bring someone to help you vote, as long as it isn't your employer, an agent of your employer, or an officer or agent of your union.
